Both courses run inside the very beautiful Toowoon Bay, either one lap or two around a circuit running from the beach inside the southern corner of the bay, past the southern reef to the northern reef, into the beach and back towards the start. It's a very pretty bay.

If there's any kind of wave running, the course provides a thrilling perspective on reef breaks, with a bit of undulation as you swim past the break, but in relative safety.

The reefs on either side of the mouth of Toowoon Bay provide a large degree of protection from nasty conditions from the sou'-east. A swell will roll into the bay, but it's relatively benign, crashing harmlessly and indolently onto the beach in the distance in the west.

Much of the swim is through gentle water, offering some rocky bottoms, plenty of sandy bottom, some sideways aspects on the break, but little in the way of shorebreak. The start and finish are on the southern beach inside the bay, which means the shorebreak is negligible.

This year, the event will be sterlingly marked with the oceanswims.com blow-up marker booeys.

All prizes presented at approximately 11.30am-12.30pm.

Every swimmer will receive a swim cap and a certificate.

Prizes for places in all age groups in 2km swim (subject to the discretion of the swim committee).

5 year age groups in 2km, 10 year age groups in 1km, all categories separate M/F

Entrants are restricted to persons who have adequately trained for this event. Entry is at the discretion of the race committee. Minimum ages 10 (400m), 11 (1km), 13 (2km)

Toowoon Bay SLSC

This is a lovely community swim on a lovely beach. It's a sparklingly beautiful beach on a bright Sat'dy morning and a great way to start the weekend. Low key, friendly. Nice water and a pleasant course around a relatively sheltered bay. Toowoon Bay SLSC tries very hard to make your day a lot of fun.

Note that Toowoon Bay won the 2007 award for being the Cleanest and Friendliest Beach in Australia.

Entry - $20 (2km), $15 (1km), $30 (both swims), $50 Family (three family members) prior to race day, and $5 (400m) both prior to and on race day.

Other race day entries, add $5 for individuals or $10 for Families

Moral: Enter in advance.

Family entry: Families may enter either the 2km or 1km events. Families consist of parents/and or their children up to a maximum of three family members. All family members must swim in the same event.
