Magnetic Is. - Townsville, North Qld (Magnetic Is. to Townsville Swim Association) - website. Probably the oldest ocean swim in Australia, now going more than 50 years, this will be the first time that it's been swum without cages. Open to Solos, Duos and Teams. Entry fee $80 per swimmer.
As the 2008 event is the inaugural cageless race, the organisers are limiting the number
of competitors to ensure a safe and successful race. Should the number of entries exceed the limit set
for the event, all subsequent entries and payments will be returned. Duo and Team entries will be
accepted on a first in, first served basis. Once the number of completed duo and team entries have
been received, registrations will close for those categories. Solo entries will close on Friday 20th June.

Organisers say: "Typically the water temperature this time of year is 24 deg with the air temperature around 28 deg. The swim will take place on the leeward side of the island and each leg of the swim offers a variety of conditions, from shallows to wind chop to tidal flow ... Green Island is 27 km offshore from Cairns in Tropical North Queensland."
