I have a lot of swimming experience in various pools and triathlons, but not a lot of open water swimming experience and would like to go with someone in a safe way. I have been in the ocean pools but need some advice on a introductory wetsuit etc. I can easily swim 1.5 km at a decent pace. I can swim all strokes except butterfly (well I can but not well) I can tread water for up to one hour and have lifeguarded and taught swimming lessons long ago in canada. However, this was mostly in pools. The open water swimming over there is very calm compared to australia.
