Stanwell Park Sea Eels

About Stanwell Park Sea Eels

The first swim was held on Sunday 16th April 1989, with 33 swimmers experiencing good water temperatures at Coalcliff sea pool which slowly deteriated over the season. By the end of May membership had grown to 59 swimmers with an average attendance of 30 swimmers each Sunday, something that is still be attained until today.
The club has competed at every South Coast Championship and have only missed a few Australian Championships mainly because of the expense of travelling especially to WA.

We are one of only one of two clubs in the South Coast Association that have female swimmers enjoy winter swimming with us, that is us and Bulli Sea Lions whom we enjoy a visit each year, this year being our 25th celebration. Despite numerous attempts to include our ladies in the South Coast Championships, we are defeated by the other six clubs to get this approved. Maybe one day these clubs will join the 21st century.

We enjoy the Australian Championships especially the country venues that being Wagga Wagga and the Metropolitan Championships at Bondi. Despite having won gold medals thanks to the late exceptional swimmer John Stacpoole, and our own female swimmer Vivienne Moxham-Hall along with two 10 person nominated time relays, we are there for the fun, comradeship and to have a drink and a chat at the bar, all in the name of “Winter Swimming”.

Our club is a very social club and invite any other club to socialise with us.

We meet at Coalcliff pool, Patison Road Coalcliff, commencing at 9am the first Sunday following Anzac Day up until the week prior to the Australian Championship in September. All welcome, male, female and any age, providing you can swim 25 metres unassisted.
