ResetThe Dorsal Club 2 Club ocean swim is named for the main swim course that winds its way around the headland from Cape Hawke surf club to Forster surf club.
The 3.8km journey swim is as satisfying as it gets as an ocean swimmer, with all of the ocean’s natural elements coming into play.
There is also a 500m beginner swim and 250m swim for the kids (8+) in the rather more sheltered Forster Main Beach.
While you’re there, take a drive up to the Cake Hawke lookout and have a cool refreshing beer at The Coastal Brewing Company.
The shorter 250m and 500m swims are held on Forster Main Beach in front of the surf club. This beach is north facing and well protected from the worst of the conditions, should they come into play.
The 3.8km Club To Club is truly deserving of it’s ‘epic’ title, starting at the east-facing Cape Hawke beach, you will swim out and around the headland and swim on a long westward reach to Forster Main Beach. You’ll be rolling around wonderfully in the swell and chop as you round the headland, but conditions settle once you head west unless the swell is not from the nor’-east, in which case it will remain choppy in the backwash from the headland. The long reach from the headland into Main Beach may test your patience. At this point, it becomes a bit of a head swim.
Always fun. Sometimes challenging. A wonderful swim.
Forster is a coastal town on the Mid North Coast of NSW, about 308km north of Sydney. It is immediately adjacent to its twin, Tuncurry, which is the smaller of the two towns.
Forster is known for its stunning waters and Manning Valley beauty.
After your swim, grab a snag from the surf club BBQ and refreshments from the Beach Bums Cafe. Spend the day exploring more of the local beaches, taking in the view from the Cape Hawke lookout (also a great spot for supporters to watch the swim) and go for celebratory drinks at The Coastal Brewing Company.
There’s a beach car park behind the Forster SLSC and parking all along the beachfront.
