About Burleigh Beach

Burleigh Beach is located in the bustling suburb of Burleigh Heads and is a mecca for not only locals but tourists alike.

Over the years Burleigh Beach has transformed from what was once a sleepy surf town, to a thriving community full of character both in and out of the water. It is full of a world-class point break, unbeatable beaches and a lively cafe and dining scene.

The Burleigh Heads area was actually formed around 23 million years ago by ancient lava flows from the nearby and now extinct shield volcano, Mt Warning.

Burleigh is home to some of the trendiest people on the Gold Coast with many trends starting here, that is after Bondi.

Burleigh beach is framed by the gorgeous Burleigh Headland, Burleigh Heads National Park and the ever popular Burleigh Pavilion.

It is often called the mecca of ocean swimming for Gold Coasters and is home to the Bureligh Ocean Swim which is held annually and the BOSS (Burleigh Ocean Social Swimmers) ocean swimming group, who swim every Sunday morning.

Overall, Burleigh Beach is a bustling beach full of a wide range of characters.

How To Get There

If you are driving to Burleigh Beach, there is both metred and free parking located along Goodwin Terrace and The Esplanade.

If you are coming down from Brisbane along the M1 Highway, take exit 89 and follow the signs to the beach.

Bureligh Beach is well-serviced on the public bus routes with 700, 777, 753, 765, 757, 764 and 754 all passing through.

While You're There

Burleigh Heads is a mecca of activity with plenty of places to eat and activities to do. One fan favourite among both locals and tourists is the walking track through Burleigh Heads National Park. Here you can choose between two walking tracks; the ocean view track which is 1.2km (one way) and takes you around the rocky foreshore through the rainforest before finishing at Echo Beach at Tallebudgera Creek. The second walking track is the rainforest circuit, a 2.3km return walk that takes you up Bureligh Headland, giving you amazing views of the coastline north and south of Burleigh Heads. This track is the best to spot migratory whales through winter and spring.

Some of the Gold Coast’s best cafes, bars and restaurants are located in Burleigh, with many of them located down James Street along with unique boutiques.

If you are looking for somewhere to eat Rick Shores and the Burleigh Pavilion are favorites among locals to enjoy a glass of wine, with a side of good food while overlooking the stunning ocean.

Burleigh is also home to the Village Markets where over 100 chic local designers and fresh produce farmers bring the community together on the first and third Sunday of every month from 8:30am to 1pm at the Burleigh Heads State School.

Nook Espresso a hole in the wall in the Burleigh Arcade, The Beach Kiosk and SeaDog at the Burleigh Bowls Club are a must if you are after a caffeine fix.
