The Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim isn’t just a swim, it’s a rite of passage. But in 2025, this iconic event comes with a once-only twist. For the first time in its history, the classic 2.2km course will run in reverse — starting at Bronte and finishing at world-famous Bondi Beach.
You’ll set off from Bronte’s sheltered bay and make your way north along Sydney’s spectacular eastern coastline, gliding past reefs, surf breaks, and sandstone cliffs before sighting Bondi’s golden curve as your finish line. For left-side breathers, this is your dream year — every stroke comes with a postcard view.
The water’s usually clear, the atmosphere electric, and this year’s course flip means the buzz on Bondi sand will be even bigger. It’s the same challenge and charm that has made this swim a bucket-list favourite for two decades, just with a perspective you may never experience again.
With solid water safety, great community energy, and a finish line that feels like a celebration, it’s no wonder so many swimmers come back year after year. But this year is different — entries are capped, and when people look back and say “Remember the year Bondi to Bronte went in reverse?” you’ll want to be the one who can say “I was there.”
Whether you’re a first-time ocean adventurer or a seasoned veteran, this is your chance to be part of Bondi to Bronte history. Salty, scenic, and seriously iconic — 2025 is the year to make it count.

The 2.2km course starts in Bronte’s sheltered bay before heading north along one of Sydney’s most spectacular stretches of coastline. You’ll swim past Tamarama and Mackenzies Point before rounding into the wide arc of Bondi Beach, with the finish line waiting on its golden sand.
It’s a breathtaking route, but it can throw up a mix of conditions — from smooth, glassy runs to swell and chop that’ll keep you on your toes. December water temperatures usually sit between 20–22°C, so expect a refreshing dip. Swimmers should be comfortable in the open ocean and confident handling surf entries and exits.
Wetsuits permitted. Suitable for confident ocean swimmers due to the point-to-point course and potential for strong surf. Water safety is top-notch with IRBs, surf lifesavers, and board paddlers throughout.

Getting to the Bronte-to-Bondi swim is part of the adventure — and with a little planning, it’s easy.
Public transport is the simplest option. Both Bondi and Bronte are well serviced by regular bus routes from the city and surrounding suburbs, so swimmers and supporters can get to the action without the stress of parking. Check the Transport NSW Trip Planner to map your trip.
Driving? Aim to arrive early and be strategic. Bondi Beach has metered parking on Park Drive and ticketed spots along Queen Elizabeth Drive, right next to the sand, but they fill quickly. Bronte Beach has paid parking in the Bronte Cutting on the southern side of the beach (access via Bronte Road).
Pro tip for 2025: Park at Bondi. With the main 2.2km swim finishing there, it’s the most convenient option. The event provides a bag transfer service — drop your gear at Bronte before you start, and it’ll be waiting for you when you finish at Bondi. Too easy.
Whether you’re rolling in on the 333 bus, carpooling with your crew, or catching the sunrise before the swim, getting there is all part of the Bondi to Bronte magic.
You’ve just swum one of Australia’s most iconic stretches of coast — now it’s time to soak it all in.
Start with a refuel. Bondi is packed with options, from beachfront cafés serving up excellent coffee and brekky rolls, to smoothie bars and sit-down spots where you can linger and relive the swim.
Bring your crew and make a day of it. Bondi’s promenade and grassy knoll are perfect for sprawling out with friends or family, while the kids can run wild on the sand.
Still got energy? Take the Bondi to Bronte coastal walk (this time on foot), retracing your swim from above. The views of the cliffs and bays you just conquered are spectacular, and it’s one of Sydney’s must-do trails.
And if your legs are done? Slide into the Bondi Icebergs ocean pool for a gentle float, or just stretch out on the sand. You’ve earned every salty second.
