ResetThe Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim has become one of the classics on the Sydney Ocean Swim calendar.
This iconic journey swim runs between the two oldest Surf Life Saving clubs in the world.
The course starts in front of the Bondi Pavilion, runs out from Bondi, around Mackenzie’s Point and down the coast into Bronte Beach, a distance of 2.1 – 2.4km (depending on the positioning of the buoy off McKenzie’s point).
Starting and finishing at two different beaches is one of the unique aspects of this journey swim. It gives all participants a sense of incredible personal achievement.
For those new to ocean swimming there is also a 1km option within Bondi Bay, it’s also a great warm-up swim for the main event!
The Macquarie Bondi to Bronte offers participants aged 13+ three different swim options, and if you’re super keen you can combine either the 1km or 5km with the main event of the Bondi to Bronte swim:
1km Bondi Bay swim -A lap around the bay of Bondi Beach. Great for a first-time ocean swim participant, a good fast hard hit out for those keen to push themselves, or equally fun as a warm-up for the main event.
2.1-2.4km Bondi to Bronte Swim – A point-to-point swim leaving the beach at Bondi, out through the break and then turning south to follow the coast past Tamarama Beach and in through the break at Bronte Beach. Be sure to look out for the big pink banner on the headland as you swim towards Bronte.
5km Bondi-to-Bronte-to-Bondi swim – An epic coastal swim commencing at Bondi Beach, initially heading north to a turning buoy at Ben Buckler where you then head down the coast to Bronte past the famed Bronte Reef before turning and heading back up the coast to the sand at Bondi.
Note: All times are indicative and will be confirmed in the swimmer handbook released 2 weeks prior to event day.
Bronte SLSC host a BBQ in the park and the Bar is open upstairs in the surf club for the post-event presentation. Make sure you get in early to ensure you can nab a seat. Bronte Beach has a beautiful, family-friendly park and gully adjoining as well as a myriad of cafés to choose from across from the beach.
Public Transport
Bondi and Bronte are both situated on well serviced public bus routes. Participants and supporters are encouraged to take public transport and can plan their journey via the Transport NSW Trip Planner.
Private Parking Options
Bondi Beach provides metered parking in Park Drive and ticketed parking in Queen Elizabeth Drive.
Bronte Beach offers paid parking in the Bronte cutting which is situated on the southern side of the beach and accessed from Bronte Road.
Many participants park at Bronte and walk the coastal walk from Bronte to Bondi and leave their personal belongings in the security area, which is transported back to Bronte, prior to the completion of the swim.
