The Pier to Perignon is the premier ocean swimming event in Victoria.
Organised by the Portsea Surf Lifesaving Club, swimmers take the scenic route from Sorrento to Portsea, swimming 4km in a point-to-point course format.
Pier to Perigon started in 1989 when the two founders, swam from Sorrento to Portsea, with the wager being a bottle of Dom Perignon for the winner.
Since then the event has grown immensely to around 1000 swimmers each year, with tickets selling out in minutes each year.
Over the years, the swim has become more about the personal achievement of completing the swim rather than the competition aspect.
After the completion of the swim, enjoy a carnival-like atmosphere, with drink and food stalls, marching bands and the occasional return flyover of ancient war-birds.
