Want to kick off your Australia Day with purpose? The Sydney Harbour Splash is the ultimate way to dive into the day. Held in the heart of Rose Bay, this event puts you front and centre in one of the world’s most iconic harbours, with million-dollar views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge glistening across the water. It’s a swim that gives you goosebumps before you even hit the water.
Choose your splash: a cruisy 1km, a challenging 2.5km, or a gutsy 5km for the seasoned swimmers. The courses are well-marked, the water is calm, and the backdrop? Absolutely unbeatable. Whether you’re chasing a PB or soaking up the summer sun, this event strikes the perfect balance of fitness, fun, and festive feels.
Beyond the swim, it’s a full-blown beachside celebration. Think music, beach games, food stalls, and good vibes for the whole crew. Friends and family can cheer you on from the sand or join in the fun with plenty of kid-friendly activities on offer. There’s even a dash of cheeky competition and a whole lot of community spirit.
So grab your goggles, throw on the cossie, and start your Australia Day salty, smiling, and seriously stoked. It’s a splash worth getting up early for.

Getting to Rose Bay for the Sydney Harbour Splash is all part of the adventure, and with views like these, the journey’s a treat in itself.
Public transport is hands-down the easiest and most scenic way to arrive. Ferries sail straight into Lyne Park Wharf, just steps from the swim start. Coming from the north side? Jump on the Manly Express Ferry, a limited-run shuttle that drops you right at the action (just note, it’s capped at 100 spots, so book early!).
Buses also run regularly up and down New South Head Road, connecting Rose Bay to Bondi Junction, Edgecliff, and the CBD. Use the Transport NSW Trip Planner to map out your route and skip the stress.
Prefer to drive? Parking is doable if you arrive early. There’s free street parking available along New South Head Road and in the Lyne Park carpark, though some spots have time limits, so check the signs. It’s a public holiday, so expect things to fill up quickly.
Once you’re there, the event hub is well set up with a bag drop, changerooms, and toilets nearby, everything you need for a smooth, salty morning.
So whether you’re catching the ferry, cruising in by bus, or nabbing that early bird park, you’ll be perfectly placed to start your day with a splash and a smile.
Kick back and soak up the harbour magic, Sydney Harbour Splash isn’t just about the swim, it’s about making the most of your Australia Day in one of the city’s most stunning spots.
Refuel with a fresh juice or smoothie from Sugar & Spoon, right by the beach, or settle in for brunch with a view at Catalina, a Rose Bay icon known for its seafood and harbourfront flair. Craving something casual? Head up to Shuk Bakery for a loaded brekky roll and excellent coffee.
After your swim, keep the good vibes rolling. Lyne Park is perfect for a post-swim stretch, picnic, or people-watch session. If you’ve got energy to burn (or kids to entertain), there’s a playground, tennis courts, and plenty of open space to roam.
Want to keep the saltwater theme going? Hop on a ferry to Watsons Bay, take a dip at Shark Beach in nearby Nielsen Park, or stroll along the scenic Hermitage Foreshore Walk for some of the best views in the city.
Whether you’re chasing chill time or chasing more coastline, Rose Bay is the perfect launchpad for an epic Australia Day by the sea.
