The Ballina Lakeside Shaws Bay Swims are a series of fun events for individuals of all ages and abilities to take part in.

The swims take place in Shaws Bay, a calm and beautiful saltwater inlet just inside the mouth of the Richmond River.

The event includes an 850m and 1.7km swim as well as a 200m Dash for Cash. Swimmers are only able to take part in the 200m event if they have also competed in one of the longer swims.

The area is a beautiful spot to rest and relax or feast on a picnic after a fun and athletic-filled morning of racing.

Swim courses

The Ballina Lakeside Shaws Bay swims incorporate a number of different events to suit swimmers of ranging abilities and ages.

The 850m event, open to swimmers as young as nine, involves swimming one lap of the Bay starting and finishing at Ballina Lakeside Holiday Park.

The 1.7km event is two laps of the Bay and will start and finish at the same location as the 850m swim. Swimmers must be at least 12 years of age.

If a swimmer has taken part in either of these races they are eligible to take part in the 200m Dash for Cash, a sprint from the Shaws Bay Hotel to the finish line on the beach at Lakeside.

Killen Falls are a go-to. Refresh from the salty Bay and jump into the fresh natural water. Immersed in nature, enjoy the stunning close-up views of the waterfall.
