        About

The Copeton Freshwater Swim is the highest open water swim in NSW and is more commonly known as The Swim with Altitude.
Taking place on the beautiful Copeton Dam on Gwydir River, the event is a unique and exciting opportunity for athletes as young as eight to take part.
With a 5km, 2.5km, 1km or 500m race, the Copeton Freshwater Swim is the perfect event for those new to the sport to the more competitive.
Only 40km from Inverell on the NSW Northern Tablelands spend a few days exploring the area’s unique attractions; heritage buildings, fishing spots, tea gardens, a winery and hiking trails.

        Swim courses

The Copeton freshwater swim is a gentle lake swim suitable for athletes of all ages and abilities.
Unlike most ocean swims, athletes don’t have to battle currents and big swell in the Copeton Freshwater Swim.
There are four swims on offer, a 5km, 2.5km, 1km and 600m. Swimmers must be at least eight years of age to take part in the 2.5km, 1km and 500m swims and 12 years to race in the 5km event.
For the short course, competitors will swim out 250m (for 500m), or 500m (for 1km) and back. The 2.5km event follows a loop – 750m out, 500m across, 750m back and 500m to the start/end point. Those taking part in the 5km will swim this course twice.
