500m & 1.2km
Warm Queensland water, a beautiful stretch of Sunshine Coast and a point-to-point ocean adventure with a surf club waiting for you at the finish. The Lexus Maroochydore Bluff to Bar has all the ingredients for a cracking morning by the sea.
Starting from the iconic Alexandra Headland Bluff, swimmers make their way along the coastline towards Alex Surf Club. Rather than swimming laps around a course, you’re heading somewhere, following the coast towards the finish with the beach alongside you and that unmistakable Sunshine Coast scenery as your backdrop.
It’s an inviting swim that gives you that satisfying open water buzz without feeling out of reach. Whether you’re stepping up to your first point-to-point ocean swim or you’ve done more ocean swims than you can count, there’s something pretty special about looking down the coast and knowing that’s where you’re headed.
Younger ocean swimmers can get amongst the action too, making Bluff to Bar a great morning for the whole swimming family. Add surf lifesaving support, plenty of energy around the beach and a welcoming crowd at the finish, and you’ve got a swim day that feels every bit as good out of the water as it does in it.
Best of all, every entry helps support local surf lifesaving and youth development at Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club. So while you’re enjoying a morning in the ocean, you’re also giving something back to the people who help keep this stretch of coastline safe.
Then there’s the finish. Swim onto the sand, grab something to eat and drink, find your crew and settle in for the post-swim celebrations at Alex Surf Club. Ocean swimming, Sunshine Coast views and a post-swim yarn at the surf club. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning.
The 1.2km course is a scenic point-to-point swim along the Alexandra Headland coastline. Swimmers start from the beach to the west of Alexandra Headland Bluff, heading straight out through the surf before turning left and following the line of course buoys parallel to the shoreline.
After passing the Bluff, the course gradually turns towards Alexandra Headland Beach. Swimmers follow the final markers towards shore before making the run up the beach to the finish. It’s a classic coastal journey with plenty of opportunity to settle into your rhythm and enjoy the feeling of actually swimming somewhere.
The 500m Junior Ocean Swim is a simple, easy-to-follow course located directly off Alexandra Headland Beach. Swimmers start from the sand and head straight out through the surf to the first turning buoy.
From there, they turn right and swim parallel to the beach to the second buoy before turning back towards shore. The final leg brings swimmers straight into the beach and through the finish, creating a compact course that gives younger swimmers a taste of open water swimming while keeping all the action close to shore.
