If you’ve ever wanted to welcome winter by doing something completely out of the ordinary, this is your chance.
The Orange Winter Solstice Plunge isn’t about swimming fast or staying in the water the longest. It’s about gathering with friends, neighbours and complete strangers to embrace a little discomfort, share a laugh and celebrate the shortest day of the year together.
Set against the beautiful surrounds of Gosling Creek Reserve, this relaxed community event combines cold water, warm conversation and a hearty bowl of soup afterwards. Whether you’re diving straight in wearing swimmers, pulling on a wetsuit, or simply wading in for a quick splash, everyone is welcome.
The plunge itself is wonderfully simple. Most people spend somewhere between 30 seconds and two minutes in the water before making a beeline for warm clothes, hot soup and plenty of conversation. It’s an experience that’s equal parts invigorating, memorable and surprisingly uplifting.
Best of all, while participation is free, optional donations support Lifeline Central West and its vital mental health and suicide prevention services across regional communities. It’s a chance to do something good for yourself while helping others.
