Bondi to Bronte moves to November for 25th Anniversary celebration

The iconic Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Sunday, 8 November 2026, with organisers announcing a one-off move from its traditional first Sunday in December date.

One of Australia’s most iconic ocean swims will be held a month earlier than usual in 2026, with organisers confirming the Macquarie Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim will take place on Sunday, 8 November.

Traditionally held on the first Sunday in December, the date change is a one-off for this year as organisers work with local authorities and stakeholders to navigate a unique period on the Bondi calendar.

The timing coincides with the anniversary period of last year’s terrorist attacks in Bondi, and with uncertainty around what commemorations, security arrangements and community activity may occur in the area, organisers have opted to move the event to ensure the best possible experience for swimmers, volunteers and supporters.

In announcing the change, Bronte SLSC emphasised that the move is a one-off and that the event is expected to return to its traditional December timeslot in 2027.

“After careful consideration and consultation with local authorities and other key stakeholders, we have decided to move this year’s Macquarie Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim to Sunday, 8 November 2026,” the club said.

“While earlier than our traditional first Sunday in December date, this one-off change reflects the unique circumstances of this year’s calendar.”

While the date may have changed, there is plenty for swimmers to look forward to as the event celebrates its 25th anniversary.

This year’s swim returns to its traditional Bondi-to-Bronte direction after last year’s reverse course format, and organisers have confirmed the return of the popular 5km event.

The club is also planning special celebrations at the finish line to mark a quarter-century of one of Australia’s favourite ocean swims.

“Twenty-five years is a remarkable milestone for any community event,” the club said.

“The Macquarie Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim has become a fixture on the ocean swimming calendar thanks to the thousands of swimmers, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who have contributed over the years. We are excited to celebrate that achievement with our community on 8 November 2026.”

Since its inaugural event, the Bondi to Bronte has grown into a highlight of the Australian ocean swimming season, attracting swimmers from across the country to tackle the spectacular 2.1km journey around Mackenzies Point between two of Sydney’s most famous beaches.

“The Macquarie Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim has always been much more than a swim,” the club said.

“It is a celebration of our coastline, our surf lifesaving culture and the incredible community that supports both. We are looking forward to welcoming swimmers from across Australia for this special 25th Anniversary event.”

Entries are expected to open on 1 August, with further details to be announced in the coming weeks.
