Making Magic: Jackie Blue’s Passion for the Malabar Magic Swim

Since 2013, Jackie Blue has embraced the Murray Rose Malabar Magic as both a personal challenge and a mission to support Rainbow Club Australia, inspiring others to join her while raising vital funds to help young people with disabilities experience the joy of swimming.

Since 2013, Jackie Blue has been a regular at the Murray Rose Malabar Magic, using the event as a personal challenge and an opportunity to support an important cause.

Jackie first got involved in the Malabar Magic thanks to a friend, Paralympian, Louise Sauvage.

“I got involved through my friend Louise, an ambassador for Rainbow Club Australia,” said Ms Blue.

“I’d never done an ocean swim before, so it was a bit of a personal challenge for me, and I used it to raise funds for the cause.

“I’m pretty sure I swam alongside Lou that year in the 1km event, and then I swam the 2.4km swim too. We raised $1,180 that year.

I loved the event so much and have swum it every year since.”

The Magic of Malabar

The Malabar Magic is no ordinary ocean swim. With its vibrant community spirit and deep sense of purpose, it has become an unmissable event for Ms Blue.

“The Malabar Magic is such a colourful and inspiring event. It is one of my favourite days every year,” said Ms Blue.

“I love the atmosphere at the beach; the whole community gets behind it, and there’s just a brilliant vibe. It’s not only a personal challenge for most to participate, but the funds raised to support such an important cause.

Over the years, Ms Blue has built a strong network around the event, bringing friends, colleagues, and family to experience the magic firsthand.

“I haven’t raised funds every single year, but we always take a crew,” said Ms Blue.

“One year, there were about 22 of us!

“The ‘friend-raising’ and awareness building is just as important, I think. It’s just the best.”

Swimming for a cause

As the event’s current top fundraiser, Ms Blue’s dedication to the cause goes beyond the water and stems from her passion for making a difference in the lives of young people with disabilities.

“I love that there exists an organisation committed to young people with a disability not only learning to swim but also developing confidence and experiencing fun and freedom in the water,” said Ms Blue.

“This will always be important. I will always support the vision the Rainbow Club has!

With each passing year, Ms Blue continues to give back, ensuring more children can experience the joy of swimming. Her efforts, along with those of the broader community, have helped raise significant funds to support Rainbow Club Australia’s mission.

A Smile Through Every Stroke

This year, on Sunday, 16 February, Ms Blue is participating in the 1km event, embracing the spirit of the day with a big smile and appreciation for the generosity of those who have contributed.

“I’m going along for a bit of fun, and I will swim with a big smile on my face the whole time because I’m so incredibly stoked at how my colleagues, friends, and family have generously given to make magic happen,” said Ms Blue.

“The dollar matching is such a great initiative, and I know it helps people to dig deep and give a little more.”

As she steps onto the sand once again for the Malabar Magic, Ms Blue embodies the true spirit of the event: passion, perseverance, and a deep commitment to making a difference, one swim at a time.
