Swimrun Australia launches new Sydney North event

Swimrun Australia has just announced the launch of their first new swimrun event, since the change of ownership earlier this year.

Swimrun Australia’s newest event – Sydney North – is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 21 October 2023, and is set to be the first of many new event locations Swimrun Australia will be rolling out over the next two years.

“We’re really excited about this stunning new location,” said Andre Slade, Swimrun Australia event director.

“When we acquired the original event we always had a vision to grow the number of locations and when we looked across the harbour from the Sydney East course we could instantly see the next one – Sydney North.

“The Sydney swimrun community has really got behind the Sydney East event so it was a no-brainer to make the next event another Sydney event.”

The new course is a true point-to-point format that will see participants tackle either a 17.5km long course route or a 9.6km short course route, both posing a great challenge.

And, in a first for the format in Australia, the short course will be open to individuals, with organisers looking for ways to introduce the sport to more people whilst maintaining the team racing tradition in the long course race.

Both courses’ routes will see participants start their adventure at Clontarf Reserve, overlooking the Spit Bridge, before making their way along the Spit Bridge to Manly trail, travelling through stunning beaches and lush National Parks, before finishing at the popular Manly Beach. The long course has the added excitement of travelling through North Head National Park and popping out at Shelly Beach and will be the popular option for teams looking for a challenge.

“Having scouted the course, I know first-hand how amazing the course is. Participants will be very spoilt in having the opportunity to participate on the course and we’re really appreciative of the Nothern Beaches Council, National Parks and Wildlife Service and Transport for NSW (Waterways) for working with us on delivering it,” said Slade.

“You’d be hard-pressed to find a more scenic, nature trail course in a major city anywhere in the world. It’s actually amazing that we can race in the middle of Sydney and feel like you’re a million miles away.

“Perhaps the best thing about these urban adventure races is that for most participants, they’ll wake up at home, participate in an adventure race, and then be home again by lunchtime!”

Throughout the course, participants will be treated to incredible views of Sydney Harbour,  Sydney’s Northern Beaches, heritage gun emplacements and cottages, aboriginal sites and marine reserves.
