While You're There

Besides its beautiful beaches, Balmoral is home to delicious restaurants and cafes.

Replenish your energy with a delectable meal at the Boathouse Balmoral. Using only the best local produce, the Boathouse prides itself on great coffee. Or enjoy a beer or wine overlooking the stunning Sydney harbour foreshore.

If you want more exercise after the gruelling race, the Spit Bridge to Manly Scenic Walkway is a must. Catch breathtaking views and scenery as you walk a series of short tracks.

Travel & Parking

Parking at Balmoral is tough and expensive. Unless you’re getting there early, or willing to walk a considerable distance from a free street-side park, public transport is the way to go.

To get to Balmoral you can catch a 257 bus from Chatswood or a 238 bus from Taronga zoo.

About

The Balmoral Swim for Cancer, as it is officially known, is one of Sydney’s open water swimming gems.

Not one to puff its chest out, the Balmoral Swim has been quietly giving swimmers a delightful swim at one of, if not the, most beautiful harbour beaches in Sydney since 1990. If it wasn’t for the great job they do of raising money for many cancer-related charities, locals would probably rather you didn’t get to know about this pristine flat water location!

But, be it as it is, you now know about the swim and we implore you to get along and support this wholly volunteer and charity-run event.

This year the event consists of:

1km Around the Bay Ocean Swim – numbers capped (more info)
2.5km Around the Bay Ocean Swim (more info)
5km Around the Bay Ocean Swim (more info)
Junior 200m – open to children 12 years and under, the course is split between girls and boys (more info)
Balmoral Team Challenge – 4 swimmers each swim 200m (more info)
Schools Challenge Relay – 3 divisions, Senior, Intermediate and Junior. Four swimmers each swim 200m (more info)

The Balmoral Swim aims to help raise over $100,000 for The Children’s Cancer Institute. Take your swim to the next level by supporting research to eliminate children’s cancer. Setting yourself a personal challenge is a great way to help those who need it.

The perfect swim for first-time ocean swimmers or for seasoned veterans with a great course set around the island at Balmoral Beach. For full information about this swim visit the 1km swim page on the official website. Disability swimmers are welcome (more information).

10 Years Old

2.5km Harbour Swim

2.5km Around the Bay

The perfect step up from the 1km swim but not quite as demanding as the 5km, this 2.5km swim offers a thrilling challenge in the stunning waters of Balmoral. With a limited number of swimmers, the course takes you from the sandy shores of Balmoral towards Chinamans Beach and back. The race is divided into Male, Female, and Elite categories. Entry into the Elite wave is restricted, with selection determined by the Balmoral Swim organisers. Swimmers who nominate for the Elite category but are not selected will be placed in their respective gender wave.

14 Years Old

5km Harbour Swim

5km Around the Bay

The ultimate challenge for distance swimmers, this 5km swim offers a safe and controlled environment with minimal waves and currents. Starting from the sandy shores of Balmoral, the course takes you towards Chinamans Beach and back. With a limited number of swimmers, this is the perfect opportunity to push your limits in a stunning setting. T he race is divided into Elite, Male, and Female categories. Entry into the Elite wave is restricted, with selection determined by the Balmoral Swim organisers. Swimmers who nominate for the Elite category but are not selected will be placed in their respective gender wave.
