      About

The Narrabeen Beach Challenge is a great small community event in the heart of Sydney’s Northern Beaches, about a 40-minute drive from Sydney’s CBD.

This ocean swim has two distances available, an 800m course for 12 years and over and a 1.8km for 15 years and over. The ‘Marie Antoinette’ champagne glass-shaped course is designed to be manageable enough for first-time ocean swimmers but also a challenge to the best of ocean swimmers.

This year’s event will be held on the Saturday before Sunday’s large Cole Classic event, so is a good alternative for those looking for something a bit smaller to participate in over the weekend.

The two courses in the Narrabeen Beach Challenge are fairly easy and straightforward to follow.

Narrabeen is a wide-open beach with shifting banks, gutters and the occasional rip as with any beach, all making for an exciting swim for all abilities.

The 1.8km swim follows a ‘Marie Antoinette’ champagne glass-shaped course (Google it) off the beach in front of the surf club.

The 800m swim follows the southern part of the longer course, before cutting it short and heading back to the beach.

      8:00am – Registration opens
      9:30am – Late entries & registrations close for 800m
      10:00am – 800m
      10.30am – Late entries & registrations close for 1.8km
      11:00am – 1.8km

There is a compulsory swim briefing 30mins before the start of each swim.

Narrabeen Beach is one of the quieter beaches along the Northern Beaches.

Narrabeen is the perfect place to experience Sydney’s famous Northern Beaches with fewer crowds compared to some of the more famed Northern Beaches.

When you’ve finished your swim, head to the Narrabeen Ocean Rockpools to chill out, and if you’ve got family supporting you, the kids can explore the rock wall and timber boardwalk.

Once you’re done enjoying the saltwater, hit Narrabeen’s famous Ocean St and explore the beach cafes and boutiques.

After exploring Narrabeen, grab a bite to eat at the beautiful Oceans Narrabeen restaurant while overlooking the ocean.

Parking is available along the beach and on the road behind the Narrabeen Surf Club. Additionally, there is also plenty of parking in the surrounding streets and along Ocean St.

Wetsuits can be worn but swimmers wearing wetsuits will not be eligible for prizes.
