Celebrate this season, and yourself at the South Maroubra Ocean Swim

At South Maroubra Surf Club, there’s more space for everything ocean swimmers live for: a broad
bay, three swims from 500m to 2.5k and oceanfront parkland for a festival of swimming and surf.

Most summer Sundays you’ll find a party atmosphere at South Maroubra, families gathering after
Nippers, members and local ocean swimmers enjoying the beach-level bar’s shaded tables.

So for their annual ocean swim, they’re going all out to ensure a great day for swimmers of all
abilities and their sun-loving supporters, from the BBQ firing from dawn, through to a live band
from 12.30pm. With massage tents and ice baths provided by Recoverie Coogee it’s clearly a
healthy choice to stay around and make a day of it.

First up? a 500m swim for 9- to 12-year-olds at 8.30am.

South Maroubra is home to over 1000 Nippers, so there will be plenty of contenders – some
battling for line honours, others making memories as they complete their very first ocean swim.

The 1km swim will follow at 9.15am, for ages 13 years and up.

Safely experience the pull of ‘the escalator’- the permanent rip by the rockpools – lifting
swimmers out past the breakers towards the first turning marker. It’s then only short swim north
before turning back towards the surf club and the satisfaction of the finish line.

Where the après is as awesome as the swim – see you there on Sunday April 23 rd

At 9.40am the Surf Club will commemorate Anzac Day, just before the 2.5km swim at 10am.
Also open to anyone 13 years and over, this course heads further along the Malabar Headland
before the turning buoy. The next turn is in line with Maroubra SLSC, and swimmers will traverse
back towards South Maroubra before catching a wave to the finish.

With hundreds of active lifesavers, South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club’s volunteer base will be
out in force on IRBs, boards and inshore, setting up a safe swim for all participants. All entry fees
directly contribute to the purchase of vital lifesaving equipment required by these same volunteer
Lifesavers.

Great prizes are on offer for 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd prizes in all age categories as well as elite swimmers,
with the main presentation at 12 noon rounding out the formalities.

Supported generously by again by Maroubra Seals, Randwick City Council, Recoverie Coogee,
Engine Swim, Home Estate Agents, Core Mortgage Brokers, Budgie Smugglers, Switch, Vlad
Swim, Parisi’s, Delfina and Look Design – find out what makes South Maroubra beloved by so
