Scomo excited for return of the Shire's Cook Community Classic

Former Prime Minister, the Hon. Scott Morrison MP, is looking forward to seeing the event back in 2022, and young swimmer, Luke Brannock, is hoping to race him.

The Hon. Scott Morrison MP, Member for Cook, and the IMB Cook Community Classic Patron is looking forward to seeing the event back in 2022, after a three-year break.

“I am excited to see all the events for the classic back up and running after a 3 year shut down from Covid-19,” said Mr Scott Morrison.

“The community swim has always been a key part of the success of the event and I am sure all the swimmers are just as excited to see the event back on the annual swim calendar as I am.

“I want to say thanks to Delfina, IMB Bank and all the Classic sponsors for sticking with us over the past 15 years, since the event’s inception.

“Also, a big thanks, to the Bate Bay Surf Clubs, who ensure the swim is safe and exciting for all swimmers across both the 1km and 2km courses.”

Luke Brannock, 14, is also happy to see the event return after great memories of his last swim.

The event is in its 15th year but this year will only be Mr Brannock’s second time participating after doing it as an 11-year-old in 2019.

“I got into ocean swimming because of my dad and how much he loves the ocean and that’s why I did the Cook Community Classic in 2019,” said Mr Brannock.

“Last time I did it with my dad, and it was scary as it was my first time but I had a lot of fun.

“But, this year I’m excited to challenge myself, and to push myself to my limits while testing my physical and mental capabilities.”

When asked what Mr Brannock’s favourite part of the Cook Community Classic was his reply was all about bragging rights.

“Last time I did it, I loved that I came in before my dad and Scomo,” said Mr Brannock.

“It was also really fun to run up the beach and see my family standing there cheering me on.

“I look forward to that part again this year.”

It’s unknown if Mr Morrison will be participating in the swim this year, but if he does, he’ll have to watch out for youngsters like Mr Brannock looking to upstage him.

To join Mr Brannock at the 15th anniversary of the Cook Community Classic on Sunday, 20 November 2022, head to the Cook Community Classic listing to enter. Entries close at 3 pm, Saturday 19 November.
