The Sydney Harbour Splash is run by the irrepressible and wildly entertaining Andrew ‘Reidy’ Reid from Bondi Rescue fame.

Many a swim has come and gone from the Sydney Harbour, so this Australia Day event is a welcome sight for those looking for a surf-less open water swim with sweeping iconic harbour views.

One thing’s for sure, Reidy loves to put on a good event, and there’s no shortage of giveaways, celebrities and quirkiness.

You can choose from 1km, 2.5km and 5km swims, and the event is open to participants from as young as nine years old on the day, making it a big morning of festivities for the whole family.

You can win a Hamilton Island holiday by encouraging your mates to join you, and the Club Challenge is set to give the winning club bragging rights for another year.

While you’re in Rose Bay, take a walk along the foreshore walkway, grab a coffee at Sugar & Spoon Cafe, Ministry of Coffee, or take it up a significant notch by booking a table at the Catalina Restaurant.

If you’re coming from the north side, the Manly Express Ferry can shuttle you over and back.

The 1km course starts at the boat ramp at the Woollahra Sailing Club and makes its way north across the bay to an apex buoy and then returns to the start/finish at the boat ramp.

For those taking on the 2.5km swim, you will cross the bay north, like the 1km swimmers, but then take a slight dogleg left to follow the shoreline towards Hermit Point. From there, you’ll turn and head back along a similar line back to the start/finish.

5km course swimmers will do two laps of the 2.5km course.

      • 6:00am – Registration (closes 15 minutes before swim start)
      • 7:30am – Acknowledgement of country and smoke ceremony
      • 7:50am – Safety briefing
      • 8:00am – 1km swim
      • 8:20am – 5km swim
      • 8:40am – 2km swim
      • 8:45am – 1km presentation
      • 10:15am – 2.5km & 5km presentation (and Hamilton Island holiday draw)

Located right at the start/finish is the Woollahra Sailing Club, who will be open for breakfast, including delicious bacon and egg rolls.

For good coffee pre and post-swim, head to Sugar & Spoon or Ministry of Coffee, both located in Lyne Park.

Parking isn’t too bad in the area if you get there early enough. Free parking is available on New South Head Road and in the Lyne Park carpark (just watch the time limits on some parks).

The Rose Bay ferry sails in and docks at the park, so that’s a fantastic option for those coming further afield. Check ferry timetable. Buses also run up and down New South Head Road from Bondi Junction and the city.

For those coming from the north side, Manly Express Ferry can shuttle you over and back and includes your return ride, a pair of Archies arch support thongs and a light breakfast. Spots are limited to 100, so get in quick.

      All the info you need to know for organising your morning at the Sydney Harbour Splash is available on the official website;

      • All swimmers need to bring some form of ID to pick up their timing chip inside Woollahra Sailing club.
      • To help the environment the event is adopting a BYO (bring your own) policy on swim caps. However, there will be Sydney Harbour Splash caps available on the day for a $2 donation to Dementia Australia in case you forget to bring yours.
      • Please come ready to swim! The event has use of the toilets inside the club but please limit time spent in there.
      • As the event is run out of the Woollahra Sailing Club you are more than welcome to leave your valuables inside. Whilst all care is taken, the event organisers and club cannot be held responsible for the loss of any items.
