The Narrabeen Beach Challenge is back in 2021 and ready to kick off the ocean swimming season as the first Sydney swim on Sunday, 7 November 2021.
This will be the first ocean swim in Sydney since the end of last season was cut short to the re-emergence of Covid, and it’ll be a much-welcomed event for Sydney ocean swimmers who’ve been stuck in lockdown.
Wayne Schwebel from the Narrabeen Surf Club organising committee said they were excited to have the event back up and running this year and to see all the excited ocean swimming faces.
“We’re excited to be the first Sydney swim for the season and we hope to welcome swimmers who’ve been cooped up during lockdowns to enjoy our wonderful beach,” he said,
“It would be great to see our loyal locals again and we’d love to welcome new faces to this part of the northern beaches.”
After a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Narrabeen locals and ocean swimming enthusiasts are eager to get back swimming around the buoys with the club’s Covid-Safe plan a priority.
“The club’s really looking forward to putting on a Covid-Safe event this year, we’ve been working with the council and health authorities to ensure our plan is up to standard.
“There’s a lot of space around the club and on the beach, so social distancing won’t be a problem,” said Schwebel.
“Narrabeen is a beautiful area and there is plenty to do around here once you complete your swim.
“If you haven’t been to this part of the beaches before you won’t regret making the journey. In fact, once you’ve completed your swim you’ll want to check out what the rest of the area has to offer – make a day of it!”
