2023 Christmas Holiday events near you

A list of ocean swim events around Australia over the Christmas holiday period, for easy reference when finding a swim near you.

The Christmas season is upon us once again and with Christmas Day just around the corner and your annual summer holidays locked in, it’s the perfect opportunity to support your local community and get involved in an ocean swimming event.

We’ve compiled a list of ocean swims over the Christmas holiday period, broken down by state, to make it easier for you to find a swim near you.

Victoria

Victoria has a couple of events over the Christmas period with its first event being the Point Leo Swim Classic at Point Leo Beach on Boxing Day, Tuesday, December 26th. The Point Leo Swim Classic is the first event of the season in the Great Victorian Swim Series. You can choose from either a 400m, 1.2km or 2.5km ocean swim. What’s better than an ocean swim to celebrate Boxing Day.

On Thursday, December 28, The Anglesea Rock2Ramp is taking place at Point Roadknight Beach. This swim is perfect for ocean swimmers of all levels with the beach providing mostly calm and protected conditions. Swimmers can choose from three distances; a 600m, 1.2km or 2.5km ocean swim. There is also a 200m and 300m kids dash ocean swim.

On Saturday, December 30, the Port Fairy Moyneyana Open Water Swim is taking place at East Beach. With manageable swim distances, this event is for everyone. You can choose between a 500m or 1.2km ocean swim.

South Australia

South Australia only has one event over the Christmas period, the Proclamation Classic Swim, on Thursday, December 28 at Glenelg Jetty. This event takes its inspiration from South Australia’s 180-year heritage, taking its name from the Governor’s Proclamation dating back to 28 December 1836 when the colony was established. You can choose from either a 1km or 2km swim.

Western Australia

In Western Australia, on Saturday, December 30, the fifth round of the SWA Open Water Swimming Series is taking place at Mullaloo.

Here swimmers can choose from six distances; a 500m, 1.25km, 2.5km, 5km, 7.5km or 10km open water swim. This event also doubles as an official qualifier for the Rottnest Channel Swim and Port to Pub events.

Tasmania

In Tasmania, on Saturday 30 December, you can sneak in one last ocean swim event for the year at the Brooke Street 1200 swim.

Taking place at Bellerive Beach you can enjoy a 1.2km harbour swim in a point-to-point format. This event is also the second round of the Tasmanian Ocean Swim Series.
