2024 New Year's events near you

A list of ocean swim events around Australia over the New Years period, for easy reference when finding a swim near you.

Congrats! You’ve made it through the Christmas celebrations and hopefully, you’ve snuck in an ocean swim here or there.

With the New Year’s holiday period just around the corner what better way to ring in 2024 than with an ocean swim. Here’s a list of ocean swims around the country during the New Year period.

Victoria

Victoria has a few events over the New Years period with its first being the Sandy Point Current Cruiser to welcome in the new year on Monday, January 1st. Held at Sandy Point’s Shallow Inlet, swimmers can choose from either a 500m or 1.5km ocean swim. Don’t worry if you are stepping up to the 1.5km for the first time because the current will help pull you along the way.

On Tuesday, January 2nd, the Rip View Swim Classic is taking place on the tip of the stunning Bellarine Peninsula which overlooks the famous entrance of Port Phillip Bay commonly known as ‘The Rip.’ Swimmers can choose from three swim distances; a 600m, 1.4km or 3.8km open water swim. There is also a 600m ‘Legends’ swim for those aged between 10 – 15 years old. This is also the second event of the Great Victorian Swim Series.

On Saturday, January 6th the Danger Ocean Swim Series takes place at Torquay Front Beach. There is a swim distance for everyone, with a 500m, 1km, 2.5km or 5km swim on offer. This is the third event of the Great Victorian Swim Series.

On Sunday, January 7th, the BOWS Marathon Swim is on at the Black Rock Yacht Club. Swimmers can choose from four distances; a 2.5km, 5km, 7.5km or 10km open water swim.

The Portland Ocean Challenge is also on Sunday, January 7th at Nuns Beach. Swimmers can choose from either a 500m or 1.2km ocean swim in an around-the-boys course format.

New South Wales

In New South Wales on Sunday, January 7th, the Newport Pool To Peak kicks off the ocean swimming events for the new year. Taking place at Newport Beach, swimmers have three different swim distances to choose from; a 400m, 800m, or 2km ocean swim. There are also great prizes on offer in the lucky swimmer draw.

The Yamba Ocean Swim is also on Sunday, January 7th at Yamba Beach. Swimmers can choose from either a 700m or 2km ocean swim. There is also a 150m Dash for Cash for those swimmers who complete either the 700m or 2km ocean swim.

South Australia

South Australia only has one event over the New Year period, the Pub to Pub Swim on Sunday, January 7th. Taking place at Seacliff Beach Hotel, swimmers will swim 1.6km to finish at Brighton Jetty.
