The Hotondo Broulee Bay to Breakers Ocean Swim is set to celebrate its 12th anniversary with a record number of swimmers.
Taking place this Sunday, 12 March 2023, the Hotondo Broulee Bay to Breakers Ocean Swim has nearly 500 swimmers registered, making it’s biggest year yet.
“We have grown the event immensely since we first started 12 years ago,” said Mr Pettigrove, event organiser.
“In our second year of running the event we had 180 swimmers and this year, we are set to have close to 500 which is the most we’ve ever had and our limit.
“It’s great to see how the event has grown from just a small community event to an event that attracts swimmers from all over.
“We have people come from Sydney and Melbourne and a couple of swim clubs from Wagga Wagga and Goulburn who catch a bus, swim the event and then have a few drinks together before heading back home.”
Located south of Batemans Bay, the Hotondo Broulee Bay to Breakers Ocean Swim is a beautiful scenic swim that sees swimmers of all abilities participating.
“It is a really lovely swim that takes swimmers from Broulee Island at the surf beach around the headland to Broulee Beach in the 1.4km swim,” said Mr Pettigrove
“Then we also have a 500m for those that might be new to ocean swimming or are wanting a shorter distance that takes swimmers out the front of Broulee Beach.
“We actually added the 500m so that kids can swim because we were seeing a lot of parents bring their kids along and we grew it to adults from there.
“Plus, every one loves hanging around once they finish their swim with their friends and family to enjoy the presentation and post-swim bbq.”
