Scaled-down Great Victorian Swim Series back for 2021/2022

The GVSS is back with free entry and eight events after a challenging 18 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Great Victorian Swim Series is back for the 2021/2022 season after a challenging 18 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Series is a not for profit ‘club’ that promotes fitness, fun and most importantly camaraderie and competition among swimmers in the Victorian open water swimming community.

The 2021/2022 season will see a couple of big changes for the Series with the biggest being it is free to join this time around.

“Because last year was such a challenging year and the Series was so disjointed due to the pandemic, we have made it free to be a part of the Series this season,” said The Great Victorian Swim Series Director, Gina Cousins.

“We really just want to keep the community together and the Series is more about the camaraderie and being together as a community than anything else.”

Many past participants are thankful that Ms Cousins has continued the Great Victorian Swim Series after a trying couple of years.

“It is amazing that Gina continues to show her passion for open water swimming competitions during these incredibly challenging times and I say a big thank you to her,” said Great Victorian Swim Series participant Stuart Barber.

“Many people have taken up open water swimming during this pandemic and the open water swimming community will emerge at the end of this larger and stronger than it started.

“Gina’s continued support of the Series is a part of the open water swimming culture in Victoria and it will give people a chance who are new to open water a chance to experience it this season.”

For this season, points will be collated and prizes awarded for the short distance event, for both wetsuit & non-wetsuit categories. Although the Series is free, the optional charity donation for Survivors of Suicide & Friends is still available when registering.
