Shark Island Swim Postponed

This Sunday’s Shark Island Swim has been postponed due to unsafe ocean conditions.

Monday, 14 February 2022: The organisers of the Shark Island Swim have advised that the event will now go ahead on Sunday, 20 March 2022.

Initially, the new date of the postponed event was Saturday, 19 March.

Initially, the 20th March date clashed with event supplier engagements, however, the Shark Island Swim Committee has been able to source and manage initial concerns and therefore is able to switch to the preferred Sunday date.

Online registrations will be open till 4pm, Saturday the 19th March, with no late registrations on the day.

Previous release

This Sunday’s 7 News Sydney Shark Island Swim has been postponed due to unsafe ocean conditions.

The new date is Saturday, 19 March 2022.

The Shark Island Swim Committee and Event Competition Committee met on Friday morning to conduct a risk assessment in relation to the safe running of the event.

The committee assessed conditions at the time and considered information from several weather forecasting applications, council lifeguards and their own experience in deciding whether the swim could be run in a safe environment for all swimmers.

Based on the fact that the conditions, at the time of inspection, would be deemed hazardous, i.e. beach closed, strong rips and 2.5-metre swell, and the fact the information provided by forecasting applications indicated that
conditions are unlikely to change, or in fact deteriorate over the coming days, the decision has been taken to postpone the event and revert to the backup date on Saturday, March 19 2022.

The organisers understand that the postponed date differs from the original backup date (Sunday March 20), however, this change has been made due to unforeseen circumstances.

The club thanks swimmers for their understanding in their reasoning to postpone the swim and are looking forward to hosting the event on Saturday, 19 March 2022.

Entrants in this event who cannot make the new date, or have any questions about the swim, should contact the event organisers via their contact page.
