The Christmas and New Year holidays are the perfect opportunity to enjoy an ocean swim or two while supporting the charity organisers and getting involved in the local community activities.
We’ve compiled a list of ocean swims for the Christmas/New Year holidays, broken down by state, to make it easier for you to see if there’s a swim near you, whether you’re travelling intra-state or inter-state.
The Newport Pool to Peak Ocean Swim is the first event in the Pittwater Ocean Swim Series and one of the first in the New Year.
This ocean swim is held at Newport Beach on Sydney’s northern beaches and offers three swim distances; 400m for ten years and over, 800m for 13 years and over and 2km for 13 years and over.
Swimmers can enter one swim for $30 and two swims for $45.
If you are wanting to start the New Year with this swim be sure to enter quickly as there is a maximum of 800 swimmers.
This year the Pittwater Series is held across five different beaches along Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
And if you enter four out of the five swims you will go into the draw to win an OceanFit Swim The Whitsundays swim tour valued at $1,995.

The Yamba Ocean Swim is back and the perfect way to kick off the new year on Sunday, 2 January 2022.
Competitors can choose from two distances and a dash for cash; a 700m for 10 years and over and a 2km for 12 years and over.
The dash for cash event is a 150m ocean swim open to those who have competed in either the 700m or 2km ocean swim.
Swimmers can enter one swim for $30, two swims for $50 and the dash for cash for $10.
This is suitable for ocean swimmers of all abilities, from the novice to the competitive open water athlete.

The Captain Christie Ocean Swim is scheduled for January 9, 2022, in Gerringong on the south coast.
This ocean swim is drenched in history, starting in 1882, it is said that Captain William Christie challenged his sailor to swim from Gerringong Boat Harbour to Werri Beach for a bottle of whisky, the sailor one, and well what can we say… the rest is history.
This ocean swim is a 1.8km course that allows swimmers to relive Captain Christie’s swim. Swimmers will start at the boat ramp, following the headland and rock shelf around and into Werri Beach.
Swimmers can enter now for $40 or on the day for $50.

The Point Leo Swim Classic is the perfect swim to work off all your Christmas goodies on Boxing Day, Sunday 26, December 2021.
This swim is also the first event in the Great Victorian Swim Series.
Swimmers can choose from three distances; a 400m for swimmers as young as eight, 1.2km or 2.5km ocean swim.
Participants can enter the 400m for $20, 1.2km for $50, 2.5km for $55. If you are really up for a Boxing Day challenge you can enter the 1.2km and 2.5km oceans swims for $90.
The Anglesea Rock2Ramp Ocean Swim is held at Point Roadknight Beach on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
This ocean swim has an around the buoys course format for all five swims. Take your pick from a 600m, 1.2km and 2.5km ocean swim. There is also a 200m and 300m Kids Dash for those aged between 7-12years old.

The Rip View Swim Classic is held at Santa Casa Beach on Thursday, 30 December 2021 and is the perfect swim to sneak in before the New Year.
This ocean swim has three distances on offer; a 600m, 1.4km and 3,8km ocean swim in a point to point format.

The Current Cruiser is the perfect ocean swim to kick off the New Year, held at the Shallow Inlet in Sandy Point on Saturday, January 1, 2022.
Swimmers can choose from two distances; a 500m and 1.5km ocean swim in a point to point course that follows the current.
Swimmers can enter for $60 for either the 500m or 1.5km ocean swim.
The Port Fairy Myneyana Open Water Swim is held at East Beach in Port Fairy on Sunday, January 2, 2022.
This swim is the first swim in the Shipwreck Coast Swim Series with two distances on offer; a 500m and 1.2km ocean swim in an around the buoys format.
The Lorne Pier to Pub is one of Australia’s iconic open water swimming events held at Lorne Beach on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
This swim is a 1.2km ocean swimming in a point to point course.
Swimmers can enter the swim for $70 or if you are not able to get to Victoria you can enter the virtual swim for $55.
The Bow Marathon Swim is held at Half Moon Bay on Sunday, January 9, 2022.
This swim has four distances on offer; a 2.5km, 5km and 10km open water swim. This event can also be used as a Rottnest qualifier swim.

Round seven of the Open Water Swimming Series is held at Mullaloo Beach on Monday, December 27, 2021.
This is the perfect swim to sneak in between the Christmas and New Year periods with the family.
This swim offers six swim distances including; 500m, 1.25km, 2.5km, 5km, 7.5km and 10km in an around the buoys format.

The Cottesloe Classic Mile is held at Cottesloe Beach on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
Swimmers can choose from three distances; a 400m, 1.6km or 3km ocean swim in an around-the-buoys course.
Swimmers can enter the 400m ocean swim for $20 and the 1.6km or 3km ocean swim for $40.
The Proclamation Classic Swim is scheduled for Tuesday, 28 December 2021 at Glenelg Beach.
This swim is inspired by South Australia’s 180-year heritage, taking its name from the Governor’s Proclamation on 28 December 1836 that established the colony.
This year competitors can choose from two distances; a 1km and 2km for 14 years and over.
Swimmers can enter either the 1km or the 2km ocean swim for $40 for Masters Swimming Club members or $50 for non-members.
The Proclamation Swim is suitable for ocean swimmers of all abilities, from the novice to the competitive open water athlete.

The Pub to Pub Ocean Swim is held at Seacliff Beach on Sunday, January 9, 2022.
This swim is organised by the Atlanis Masters with a 1.6km ocean swim on offer in an around the buoys course format.
Swimmers can enter the swim for $40 for members and $50 for non-members.
The Brooke Street Pier 1200 Ocean Swim is held at Bellerive Beach on Saturday, January 1, 2022.
This is the perfect swim the welcome in the New Year and to start ticking off those 2022 resolutions.
This swim has two distances on offer; a 600m and 1.2km ocean swim in a point to point course format.
Swimmers can enter either the 600m or 1.2km ocean swim for $30.
